BP3: The International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code
Updated for Amendment 41-22
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the specialised United Nations agency with responsibility for international maritime affairs. As such, it is responsible for the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code). The Code deals with packaged dangerous goods and this briefing pamphlet gives a concise summary of the most important aspects of the IMDG Code and how to use it. Since January 2004, the IMDG Code has been mandatory and all member states who are signatories to the IMO’s Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) are obliged to bring it into their national laws.
This BP is supplemented by Safety Guides IIL/1 and IIL/2 and incorporates Amendment 41-22.
