Member Event: Electric Vehicle Maritime Safety Conference – 17 October 2024
ICHCA Member Ports Skills and Safety and the UK Chamber of Shipping are bringing together experts from academia, the automotive, and maritime industries, to discuss the risks and mitigations arising from the increased use of electric vehicles in ports and their carriage on vessels transiting through UK ports.
Lithium-ion batteries are increasing used in everyday life, from electric cars to mobility scooters, up to electric tugs and port plant equipment. Whilst the risk of fire associated with their use is not thought to be higher than any other fire risk, the implications of electric battery fires can be far more severe. Dealing with a lithium-ion fire in a port or on a ship presents unique challenges and risks, this conference will discuss those risk and how best to prepare for them.
This conference will discuss the various touch-points that electric vehicles have with ports and shipping including car carriers, ro-ro ferries, plant and ageing batteries being exported in containers.
This conference is open to members of both associations as well as any other interested parties.
