New Edition of ICHCA’s Overview of the Provisions in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code for Amendment 40-20
Amendment 40-20 of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, including a new edition of the supplement, was published on 1st January 2020 and becomes mandatory on 1st June 2022.
All amendments are approved by IMO’s most senior technical committee, the Maritime Safety Committee and a completely new edition of the IMDG Code is published every two years. Each amendment of the IMDG Code is valid for up to three years. Amendments overlap each other so that there is always a transition period for industry to make the necessary adjustments to the latest amendment.
With each amendment, ICHCA issues a fully reviewed and updated overview of the provisions in the Code. This new edition covers Amendment 40-20 and includes:
- status, background, principles and layout of the IMDG Code
- classification
- marking, labelling and placarding
- product containment
- limited quantities and excepted quantities
- documentation
- stowage and segregation
- competent authorities
