WINNER of the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award: Cross Currents 88 / G2 Ocean AS – “Spyder Netting”

Safety Innovators Acclaimed at Annual Award Ceremony

    Richard Steele (ICHCA International), David Robinson MBE, Jan Andreassen (G2 Ocean),Thomas Keenan (Cross Currents 88), Mike Yarwood (TT Club)   From a shortlist of three chosen by judges from a total of twenty-eight outstanding entries for this year’s competition, the partnership between Cross Currents 88 and G2 Ocean AS was announced as the winner of the TT Innovation in Safety Award, at a presentation ceremony in London today. The two highly commended innovations came from Royal Haskoning DHV and Trendsetter Vulcan Offshore. Independently organised by ICHCA, the TT Club Innovation in Safety Awards are dedicated to both organisations’ mission to promote and improve safety in all operational aspects of the supply chain. Li-Ion Batteries and the Challenge for Seafarers, Adrian Scales, Brookes Bell Captain Adrian Scales is a Chartered Master Mariner (CMMar) and Fellow of the Nautical Institute (FNI). He joined Brookes Bell in January 2007 from a position as Master with P&O Ferries (Irish Sea) Ltd., and became Director of Europe for Brookes Bell in 2024. During his 18 years at sea, he served on various ship types including reefer/container, general cargo, freight ferries, Ro-Pax ferries and High-Speed Passenger Craft (HSC). In November 2015, Adrian was appointed to the Lloyd's Salvage Arbitration Branch SCR Panel as Special Casualty Representative (SCR). Adrian is passionate about the topic of crew safety on Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro and Container ships. He has presented on the topic of Li-Ion safety at various international conferences in the hope of raising the profile of the challenges that could be faced by seafarers. Enhancing resilience and safety in ports and terminals via information sharing Yucel Yildiz, RightShip Yucel Yildiz is RightShip’s Ports and Terminals Manager. He joined the company in 2018 as a Vetting Superintendent and carried out a secondment role as Customer Engagement Officer (EMEA) in 2020 and 2021. Yucel is part of the RightPORT task force and represents RightShip in various Port and Terminal Associations, including Dry Bulk Terminals Group (DBTG), the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), International Harbour Masters Association (IHMA), International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA), UK Port Skills and Safety, Baltic Ports Organisation (BPO). Yucel has extensive experience on ocean-going vessels, rising to the rank of master mariner on board crude oil, product, and chemical tankers.
