Serious injury to a crew member – fall from height in vessel hold whilst underway
A member of the crew was working in a cargo hold, lost balance and fell from a height. This resulted in severe head, back and chest pain. The crew member was air lifted for further treatment. The safety investigation revealed that immediately prior to the fall, the casualty’s safety harness was not secured to a fixed point, whilst he was shifting his position.
