ICHCA Radar: Break Bulk Guide Britannia PI 2024
Recently, Britannia has seen several incidents involving damage to break bulk cargo. Mainly in two categories:
• inadequate loading, stowage and securing of break bulk cargo, resulting in cargo shift and stow collapse as well as ship stability risk
• vehicles incorrectly stowed, lashed and carried as non-dangerous cargo in bulk carriers/general cargo ships
The paper provides guidance on proper loading, stowage, and securing. It emphasises the importance of adhering to flag approved Cargo Securing Manuals (CSM), Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing (CSS Code) and International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code” (IMDG Code).
