Captain Richard Brough OBE BA AFNI started his career with the Merchant Navy in 1969 culminating in command level and at the same time serving a commission in the RNR.
He came ashore in 1989 and after a spell in various port and stevedoring managerial positions with Humberside Sea and Land (Now PD Ports), served for two years as a Port Captain with OT Africa Line. He was then employed by a major stevedoring company in Hull; Northern Cargo Services Ltd, rising to Managing Director following its acquisition by Associated British Ports.
In 2004 he left to set-up his own company; Brough Marine Limited; offering professional advice to companies involved in the Ports & Logistics sector. In 2007 he started UK Port Services Ltd which rapidly built up a blue-chip client list including ABP, P&O, DFDS, PD Ports, Titan Cement and UPM Kymmene among others and employing over 140 professional and skilled port staff.
In 2008 the company attracted investment from the Jenkins Shipping Group and Richard left to re-start Brough Marine in June of 2011. Richard now provides ICHCA International’s Technical Advisor service and is deeply involved in the association’s work with various international agencies and regulatory bodies.
Richard is actively involved in the local and regional economy holding various private/public sector partnership positions including being the former Chair of the Logistics Academy Yorkshire and Humber and a member of its national board. He is still a member of the advisory committee of Logistics Institute at The University of Hull.
He was awarded an OBE in HM The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List in 2011 for services to Learning and Skills in the Humber Region.
