ICHCA and Partners Issue Comprehensive Safety Guidance Issued for Dangerous Goods Storage and Handling Facilities

The tragic incidents in Tianjin and Beirut have marked a decade of increased concern over the safety of dangerous goods stored in ports, terminals and other warehousing facilities. ICHCA and three other industry groups have collaborated to address the issue and produce best practice guidelines in the form of a White Paper and Warehouse Checklist. In the face of increased volumes of dangerous goods transported in sea containers, and the occurrence of major incidents as well as lesser accidents, there is a clear need for guidance on safe storage and handling of dangerous goods in warehouses, including port and terminal facilities. Building on our combined expertise and experience, ICHCA International alongside our colleagues in the International Vessel Owners Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA), National Cargo Bureau (NCB) and World Shipping Council (WSC) have responded to this critical requirement by developing a Dangerous Goods Warehousing White Paper. “A pivotal element of our [...]

Today’s Publication Spotlight: *Updated Version*: BP25 – An Illustrated Guide to Container Marking Codes

A container type and size is depicted by the series of numbers in the upper right hand corner of the container’s right hand door. Of course if the container was right in front of you, the size and type could be ascertained by just walking around it. However, as most of the time there is only a manifest, other shipping document or EDI transmission, you need to know the ISO numbering system to understand what type of container you are dealing with. This Briefing Pamphlet details the status of codes, cracking the code, the size code, the size code designations, the type code, and other marks. These markings and codes tell the initiated almost everything one needs to know about the type and service capabilities of a container, and can be a critical source of information.   Please follow the link to download the briefing pamphlet: https://ichca.com/download/bp25
